Splint a Fracture of the Lower Leg

I will give you 10 steps regarding how to splint a fracture of the lower leg. This way you can get the instructions that you need and provide the proper first aid treatment. You should still make sure that proper and immediate medical attention is provided to the injured person even after having followed the steps outlined above, as broken bones can be serious. Always try to make the patient feel at ease and take their mind off the pain that they are in. If you know any person who is suffering from this problem, then I suggest the following steps to that person:

- Check to see if the fracture has an open wound anywhere.
- Assess the fractured area thoroughly and try to make a determination which bone in the lower leg is fractured.
- Gather any materials that may be used to splint the fractured leg.
- Fold the excess splinting material around the leg in an effort to cover it completely.
- Place the splinting material around the leg as gently as possible.
- Ask the injured individual to straighten his leg as much as possible.
- Place a blanket over the victim to ensure she not only stays warm but that the injury does not cause her to go into shock.
- Transport the victim to the nearest medical facility as soon as possible and explain to the medical professionals what steps were taken to stabilize the fractured lower leg and the general health of the injured.
- Determine that circulation in the leg is okay.
- Stuff the empty spaces in the splint with leftover materials.
- Blood flow is a great thing in this problem.
- Splint materials, such as belts, ropes, cardboard, sleeping bags or bandages, are needed by the patient.

Follow these steps whenever you are dealing with bone fractures.
